10年的貿易經歷讓他對整個行業的運作規律了如指掌,且掌握了一定的銷售資源。但1999年的金融危機卻讓其所在的公司面臨倒閉,擺在他面前的只有兩條路:要麼往產業上遊走去開工廠,要麼去下游開零售店。
當時考慮到如果要做終端開零售店,必須依靠品牌來支撐,不然肯定做不起來。而要在短時間內建立自己的品牌,那幾乎是不可能的事。權衡再三,陳湖雄決定在上海組建制筆工廠,從上海、英雄、永生等老牌筆的發祥地起步。
1999年,陳湖雄在奉賢買下了6畝地造廠房,開始打造晨光筆業。由於自己對制筆完全一竅不通,陳湖雄聘請了當時上海筆廠的幾位專家任廠長,自己則在旁邊學邊干。通過兩年的試水,工廠只能勉強維持。陳湖雄覺得這樣下去不行,於是果斷地調整策略,一方面調整領導班子,由他親自上陣,另一方面擴張用地,用規模化生產來提升產量。
那段時間陳湖雄24小時住在工廠,車間也是晝夜不停地開工。一支筆的生產要經過40道程序的操作,只要有一個環節出錯,那就是廢品。到後來無論是在哪個環節,陳湖雄只要把產品拿在手上看一下,就知道是否是合格的。
晨光產品的售價是日本同行的1/3,毛利率大約在15%~20%左右,而每提升5個百分點,就會有1億元的收入遞增。
