10年的贸易经历让他对整个行业的运作规律了如指掌,且掌握了一定的销售资源。但1999年的金融危机却让其所在的公司面临倒闭,摆在他面前的只有两条路:要么往产业上游走去开工厂,要么去下游开零售店。
当时考虑到如果要做终端开零售店,必须依靠品牌来支撑,不然肯定做不起来。而要在短时间内建立自己的品牌,那几乎是不可能的事。权衡再三,陈湖雄决定在上海组建制笔工厂,从上海、英雄、永生等老牌笔的发祥地起步。
1999年,陈湖雄在奉贤买下了6亩地造厂房,开始打造晨光笔业。由于自己对制笔完全一窍不通,陈湖雄聘请了当时上海笔厂的几位专家任厂长,自己则在旁边学边干。通过两年的试水,工厂只能勉强维持。陈湖雄觉得这样下去不行,于是果断地调整策略,一方面调整领导班子,由他亲自上阵,另一方面扩张用地,用规模化生产来提升产量。
那段时间陈湖雄24小时住在工厂,车间也是昼夜不停地开工。一支笔的生产要经过40道程序的操作,只要有一个环节出错,那就是废品。到后来无论是在哪个环节,陈湖雄只要把产品拿在手上看一下,就知道是否是合格的。
晨光产品的售价是日本同行的1/3,毛利率大约在15%~20%左右,而每提升5个百分点,就会有1亿元的收入递增。
